A place like no other by Surly

Hot, Dry, Dusty and NOT compatible with human life. You read the words and think I’m a drama queen. I am not exaggerating.

Do your research before going. Decide if that is something you REALLY want.

All that said, it’s not the physical location that makes Black Rock City a place to visit, it’s the PEOPLE. Burners ROCK :) The planners, the attendees, they are the city.

It is so worth visiting. For me, it was a life changing event. I met so many great people and saw so much inspiring art, it renewed my faith in humans.

I was planning next time before we even left the city. I can’t wait to go back.

Bring an open mind, a comfy bike, two pairs of undies and socks per day, Gatorade, and comfy shoes. A clock is required! And sunscreen. Bring your own music, especially if you aren’t into techno. Techno blasts out of every orifice in BLC, 24/7. You need a shade structure of some kind, not just a tent. Enough can not be said about the joys of cups with lids, bring several. Plan on your car getting coated in playa dust, no matter what you do or how careful you are.

Don’t wait one more year! Start planning now!

Not for everyone, but certainly interesting by bedpan3

I had a terrible time, but I also was in the middle of a horrible marital separation when I went. It’s worth seeing, for sure, if you’re curious – if not a bit overpriced and over-hyped. Im guessing you take out of it what you bring in this case.

I lived at 3:45 and K this year. My way home sucked… two day drive with my best friend (whom happens to be an ex) and the guy she was into when she got the tickets (and was still interested in). At the gate we didn’t get a warm welcome home. We got a bitchy one. With in the first 24 hours I ended up punching a guy in the face because of what he said to me, and what his camp was doing to people on the road. In fact the first two days sucked a lot. When I went out and about I was greeted by assholes and bitches. And it’s not like I was walking into anyones camp, or was asking for anything from anyone. I was treated as an outsider. More then likely because I was dressed more to deal with the sun and heat. And less in glitter, fur, and shirt cocking.

After stressing out, cooling down, and having some really kick ass friends did I enjoy my time. Ended up becoming closer with my friend in the end.

But I warn all of you. If your thinking about coming. Do it next year, not the year after. Do it next year. READ up on the event, and READ the guide!!! Bring everything that you need for yourself. I ran into so many first timers that didn’t even have water!!!!!! So read, read everything.

The other warning. If your a e-tard. Don’t come.
