Painted Desert

I was driving out west on a business trip (since I hate flying) and saw the signs for the Painted Desert. I have wanted to go to the Painted Desert ever since I read about it in my Charlie Brown’s ‘Cyclopedia when I was little, so my wife and I decided to stop and make a day of it.

It is definitely worth it. The desert is absolutely spectacular, and you are also right next to the Petrified Forest National Park, which is also amazing.

reminds me of home

The canyon fully surrounds you…and you get the surreal feeling that the whole entire planet looks this way! So just a tip for those venturing into the area of the petrified forest…do not try to take anything with you…it’s illegal.

This is truly a work of art. It’s like God took a paintbrush and painted the landscape. Gorgeous!!

And while you’re here, visit the petrified forest.

The colors were astounding. Everything reflected the sky. I think it would be just as beautiful at dawn, maybe even more so, if such a thing is actually possible.

...on your way to or from the Grand Canyon. Unfortunately, I was there on a cloudy day, which made the colors a bit muted, but the petrified forest was still interesting.

I’ve been a few times and during rainy years they turn it off, and plant lots of pretty wild flowers to hide it.

Beautiful place, the colors were incredible. All the pinks, reds and yellows take your breath away. But it was hot.
Another great place to see is the petrified forest.
