Three Sections: Island In The Sky, The Needles, and The Maze  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

Canyonlands National Park is divided into three separate sections by the Colorado and Green Rivers, and to get from one section to another requires extensive driving around and outside of the park. The separate sections are effectively like completely separate parks, although there’s only one entrance fee. Island in the Sky is the North section, is close to Arches National Park and Moab, and has incredible views accessible without hiking. Needles is a good 1.5 hour drive from Moab, and to really see what the area has to offer (like Chesler Park, &c.) requires some hiking and/or high-clearance 4-wheel driving. The Maze section is extremely remote and only accessible by 4-wheel drive vehicles.

Not that exciting of an entry, but I just thought that this information should be up here for people thinking about coming here. More information is available on the Canyonlands National Park website.

White Rim  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

We descended to the White Rim and spent one night at the amazing spot – Colorado river overview.
It never happened to me to hear the sound of crow’s wings… Absolutely best place to visit. But you have to go down and try to avoid Island in the Sky which seemed to me a little overcrowded.

One of the most beautiful areas in the US, and pretty tourist-free.

I came in from the Rock Mountain Monument, and Moab through the back dirt road. Magic.

It is so beautiful. If you are planning a trip to the area and are thinking of cutting it out of you itinerary, think again. It’s like the Grand Canyon but in concentrated form.

    Visit Canyonlands

This place is Three Grand Canyons rolled into one,
    without all of the tourists!

See the Black Widow Spider that was in our campground just outside of Arches.
