Kick back and relax!  — 1 month ago

    Worth visiting!

I went here on a weekday afternoon. The sun was out and I basked in it on a big rock, listening to live music from a group of what looked like “60s hippies,” but weren’t that old. Hardly anyone else was around, just an occasional cyclist going by. Boats in the water, blue sky, green grass, warm sun – perfect!

But As That Would Be Awesome They Should Look Into That  — 7 months ago

    Worth visiting!

No matter what 10 Things I Hate About You tells you, there is no paintball at Gas Works Park.

My dad’s friend used to own a kite shop near Gas Works. When my brother and I were younger he would take us here every weekend after we went to the Varsity Inn across from the kite shop for breakfast and shopped in the aforementioned kite shop.

It’s definitely one of the most interesting parks in Seattle.

Cool Park  — 8 months ago

    Worth visiting!

We attended a unit picnic at this park. The kids thought the old gas works were cool to look at. Plenty of trees and open spaces.

Picnic, skateboard, kites, wandering, bicycle. It’s pretty much the perfect city park.

Go during a festival. Go on a sunny day. Take a date in the evening, find the ‘secret’ benches that face the city across the water, and make out. Or just write poetry. Or something.

Easy access by bike via Burke-Gillman Trail.

My favorite spot in Seattle  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

Maybe it’s my affinity for Tim Burtonesque environments. but this place really appealed to me. A big hulking gas plant covered in grafitti, surrounded by scrub growth (‘cause not much will grow there), warning signs against the health hazards of swimming, and a nice playground. Such contrast. I dig it.

Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

If you are a visitor, you will love this place. I go here often to just relax. its pretty quiet, and there are usually plenty of people, there are large fields to run around, jog, play with your dog, fly a kite, and also an amazing view of downtown skyline.

    Worth visiting!

a must stop for anyone cuz it has a fab view of downtown and the main hills and the lake….the night time view is just as awesome as the daytime one….i’ve wanted to get pix of the night view, but that requires lens that i don’t have for my camera… ;(
it’s nice to sit on the grass and just listen and watch and relax…totally worth it to anyone and everyone to visit it at least once in their lives…

A review of this place: Great views  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

Nice to go to any time of year. The summer it gets busy with families but it’s a great place to throw a frisbee around, suntan, picnic, etc etc. The evenings are less crowded and Gaswords is the place if you want a pretty sunset picture (when it’s not cloudy..good luck).
A scene from the movie Ten Things I Hate About You was filmed here too

Discussion: the homeless are real people too  — 1 year ago

ive read were some are worryed about the homeless guy an his dogs ,....well ive met him became friends with him an the group , an feel some of you are letting your misunderstood believes get the best of you . there peeps too , an the dogs are not both his one is an the other belongs to another person , im not going to add there names for there privacy right . ive been homeless myself an know how dificult it can be, some look at you funny others just say get a job {in which lots of homeless already have } also some who dont ;well look at an application its not the easyest thing to fill out when you have to poast a church as your resident/ph. no. etc…finding ways of survival can be chalenging ; were to shower, cook, change close, use bathrooms…etc. im sorry about ranting on in this area . gasworks is a nice park an has many things to offer , place to cook meals roofs over your head when weathers foul, large area for friends to gather , good free music , a place to trade arts or just give away to someone you might find interesting as ive already done.
Park employs are something els to deal with , you realy have to kiss there butts as they call the police on you an nomatter what may have took place the police will most likely believe an employ of the park befor a homeless guy , homeless are not treated equal as ive found out the hard way. there belongings are found an throwin away ,if firewood is brought in to keep warm or used to cook with they get introuble also for this …i guess unless youve lived it as the saying goes you realy dont know how it is. well i hope this ranting of my words hasnt turned any away from the park ,theres alot of interesting things beside a view of downtown-the needle-the crew rowing past-like kites on a breezy day -etc .
