Dahlonega

Dahlonega GA was the place of the FIRST gold rush in US history. Dahlonega gold is about 98% pure and so much gold came out of here at one time that the US set up a mint for Gold coins.

There are still tons of gold in these hills, real mining and panning still goes one here but not to the extent as it did in the 1800s. There are several “Mines” you can visist as well as the Historic Gold Museum that is located in the town square. The most vistited mine is the area is the Consolodated Gold Mine and there they actually take you down into the old mine and you get a pan of sand to Pan
