South Street

Come on, if your from Philly…You’ve been there.

Growing up in the burbs of Philly, South Street is where we hung out nearly every weekend when I was in high school. Wild, fun times that I am lucky to have survived.

I remember seeing a South Street sign but I don’t remember where I was going or what I was doing at the time. All I remember is my heel was in pain so I was sick of walking!

South Street is fantastic, even if it’s just to people-watch. Lots of bars (go to Downey’s!). I got a hat at Zipperhead which is now called Crash Bang Zoom. Haven’t really been there enough to know all there is to do there, but so far I’ve had a great time every time I’ve been down and will definitely go again.

I skipped part of college orientation with some new friends to ride the subway for the first time, check out some lovely boutiques, admire the local color, and shop an an anarchist bookstore (The Wooden Shoe).

One of my friends had an apartment right on South Street… so many good memories.

Once, we were all hanging out, and it started snowing. We walked outside around midnight, and there were a few inches on the ground. South Street was deserted!! Very eerie, almost spooky. I doubt I’ll ever see an empty South Street again.

That being said, I do enjoy the TLA. It’s a nice, intimite setting to catch a show. Oh – and I’m absolutely hooked on Lorenzo’s Pizza. Best pizza $2.00 can buy!!!!!

had a famous cheesesteak sandwich. I didn’t really like it that much…but I liked the experience.

Jim’s cheesesteak restaurant

I stayed on the corner of 4th and south a month ago. I have a mate who lives there so when I come to Philly I always hang out there and go the the TLA theatre, you can see some great gigs here, or walk over to Jims and get a real phillysteak, (i’m not sure if that’s the best in the city… many think so, but I haven’t been to them all yet..).. Great food, busy day and night and some cool clubs to hang out at.
