Day in Oxford Uni in 2009 by Charlie

I spent a day in Oxford in Autumn 2009. A group of us from college were going to see the university. We were given a tour by one of the students, and the place is really beautiful. Reminded me a little bit of a castle, almost like something out of Harry Potter – especially the dining halls of the colleges, with old paintings hanging on the walls too. The library is pretty brilliant too – they have a copy of everything ever published and it’s all stored underground where students aren’t allowed to see. Despite deciding I didn’t want to study there, we had a good day out. After visiting the uni, we walked around the town which compared to home, is actually quite small and easy to navigate. It’s full of little bookshops too.

This is one of my favourite places... by butterflyflutters

… in England. I deplore “the other one that shall not be named starting with C and ending in idge” but Oxford is attractive with friendly locals.

Just go there! by Luxx

I have visited the town at least 5 or 6 times and each time I discover something new about it. It has a unique feel to it. Its not just the beautiful architecture ( and it is interesting to note that Oxford has examples of every British Architectural period since the arrival of the Saxons), there is something more to it. I put it down to the atmosphere of the place. When you are there, walking through the city or standing in the catherdal of the christ church college you have this profound feeling of time. You can imagine millions of great minds walking where you are walking now, standing where you are standing now at some point in history.

There is no doubt about it. Visting Oxford is worth every second. Obviously you cannot see everything in one day hence I will definitively be going back there again.

It has been possible to get accommodation in some Universities and Colleges out of term time for a while. However I find www.universityrooms.co.uk a bit better than most previous sites, in that it provides good information and tips about the places it covers, which include Oxford.
