At the Blue Marlin, Drunk on Gin and Jazz... by littleelegy

…as a music major at the University, I wrote a poem about gin and jazz and limes in a matchbook. It ended with the line, “fucking limes, I’m just going to eat them anyway.”

You are soooo cool at age 21.

Fairbanks is the most beautiful place to visit in the summer. I like to go gold panning, eat some good fish and go to Chena Hot Springs when I visit Fairbanks. I used to go to Hight School there. The schools are very nice.

This is my hometown. I’ve done a lot of traveling and always seem to return. Fairbanks has grown from small town to something of middle-america tourist spawn (ala the arrival of the big stores: walmart, homedepot, barns & nobel, etc) but alaskans have a way of keeping things grounded.

btw why on earth did someone tag Fairbanks with ‘garlic’? :o

Careful about travelling during fire season. I drove from Whitehorse to Fairbanks one summer during July and got smoked in from the forest fires.

I think Fairbanks would be a fine place to live. It’s small but just big enough. It’s a college town in many aspects. UAF is a fine school. But these are just reasons to live there.

Also, if you have family there that might swing your reasons for visiting.

I see no point whatsoever in going to Fairbanks for vacation or getaway purposes. There are many other places to spend time (and money) in Alaska. There many prettier places, and many less flammable places.
