Bronze Lady Sculpture

Local legend says that in 1916 a 6 year old went into the cemetary on a dare. She followed the sound of weeping which brought her to this statue. She sat in her lap and wiped away the tear from her eye.

If you sit in her lap she will bring you good luck.

If you slap her or kick her, you will be haunted for the rest of your life.

This statue by Andrew O’Connor Jr is titled Recuillement (Grief) and when widow Thomas saw it, she asked him to remake her gayer. He did as she asked and when she came to see the new bust of the head, she approved of the changes greatly. He then smashed it in front of her saying he would never let such a work leave his studio and the Bronze Lady would stay as he originally intended, grieving in front of the Mauseleum.
