First a few tips.
1. Gas up before you get into the park. It is a long drive through the park and I almost ran out of gas.
2. Take your pictures of the trees next to something as a reference otherwise they just look like trees.
3. Bears live in that area, be bear ready. NO FOOD!
4. Take a hydration pack.
Just the drive alone ot the General Sherman Sequoia is a noteworthy experience. It has some of the most amazing vistas anywhere.
The trees themselves are almost beyond compare. Hundreds of feet tall some over 30 feet around. We saw just a small portion of the park and were very glad we took the time to see it.
Sidelines you might want to check out: HWY 245 near the outside of the park is crazy! It has hundreds of swithcbacks and was the most insane driving I have ever had to do. Beautiful views but it took us over 2 hours and we were on a switchback every 4-10 seconds. We estimate 1,800 switchbacks!
The Cider Mill Resturant is near the park. Just a local mom and pop diner but they actually have apple cider if you ask (Not on the menu). Decent food and great sevice for a good price for a resort town being so near.
The UFO house is about 2 miles down from the Cider Mill on the left. It is an old fiberglass house (1970’s vintage) made in the shape of a UFO.

My friend has moved out of the area. I don’t anticipate going there anytime in the foreseeable future.
I wouldn’t mind going there one day.

The trees here are the hugest trees you’ll ever see. It’s amazing to think about how long these trees have been on Earth to get so tall and so wide. There used to be a tree that people in a car could drive through (a hole was cut at the bottom), but you can’t anymore. I guess the exhaust was destroying the tree.

It’s so beautiful. I love the smell of forests in California and Arizona, too.
I love the name ‘Sequoia’, too – it’s Native American for giant redwood (no surprises there), but I’m not sure which language. If I ever have a kid, that’s what I’ll call her.

I used to live near the park and visited all the time (few times a month). It’s one of my favorite places. So many differnt areas to discover and explore. When it’s hot in the valley, the temps are cooler in the park. When it’s cold and foggy in the valley it’s warm and sunny in the park. What more could you ask for?

we were there just a few months ago, doing a road trip in CA. The trees are huge. words, pictures, nothing really can carry the weight of actually seeing these things. we also saw crystal cave, and the beautiful waterfall not far from the entrance to the cave. Finally, we saw a black bear, near one of the visitors centers, as you head north out of the park (towards king’s canyon).

I took a road trip with my cousin and her then boyfriend(now hubby), and her few other Singaporean friends to California. Some of the places we have passed through include Lake Tahoe(didn’t spend too much time there). And our aim was to see Nevada and this amazing tree (you can’t touch it since it’s fended). We have also stayed in a lovely cabin type of motel somewhere near the tree area(can’t remember the name anymore since it’s so long ago)..I still remember that it was freaking cold in the cabin(up in the mountain), and I was too afraid to jump into the shower :( ..Or maybe nobody would bother to shower during those few cold days :P
I’m pretty sure anyone who has seen this tree will be so utterly amazed by its size and beauty- 2 words that came out of my mouth instantly were, “WOW” and “BiG”! If I remember correctly, this tree is by far the largest (by volume) tree in the world.
What an BIG and COLD experience!
