Pumpkin Days

There’s a festival in Kikinda called Pumpkin Days (Dani ludaje). It takes place in the middle of October.

On this day, there are different competitions; women from Kikinda (Kikindjanke) make pumpkin pies, pumpkins are measured and weighed, schoolchildren make masks and take part in pumpkin relayraces…There’s also a parade and a fair with food on the town square.

Being a festival, it can’t be imagined without music. So a lot of folk dance and singing groups perform on the stage in front of the museum.

A story about Kikinda

Kikinda, as it is today, is a relatively new town ( 250 years old ), although there are the remains of ancient and lost cultures and civilizations to prove that the 1st settlements appeared here around 5000 B.C.

Kikinda is situated in the north of Serbia, on the border of Serbian, Romanian and Hungarian parts of Banat. To be more precise, it lies on 45 50N and 20 29E.

Kikinda was built according to the plans for building the settlements in Banat ( rectangular streets and central square with a church, a parish building, a town hall, a school and a cafe ). For 2 and a half centuries, Kikinda has saved this concept, but got more schools and cafes in the meantime.
