St. Stephen

I want to visit relatives—those I know and don’t know. I want to see all of the places that my grandfather set foot on as a child. I want to find out if St. Stephen feels like home. I want to take a lot of pictures and record a lot of film. I want my daughter to run around in the country air.

A tiny southern town with a population of less than 1800—most of whom I am related to. A library that is open only three days a week and where you purchase your meat at the slaughterhouse. Winn Dixie and Piggly Wiggly are exciting, so are the open roads. I expect to see a lot of dense woods whose inhabitants call cinder block structures with tin roofs home. This trip is 3 months away.

This is where my grandfather is from and where most of my relatives on my mother’s side go to retire. I have wanted to visit this place for a very long time and now I am going for Thanksgiving. I really can’t wait to go.
