Worth visiting!
"Fast food," but not really.
Opened in by two Greek immigrants in the 1920’s, this Houston-based hot dog chain is quite possibly one of the best fast food joints in town.
They’ve got a simple menu – burgers, fries, tots, chili, ice cream, and, of course, hot dogs. You can order your hot dogs one of three ways – Texas style (Mustard, chili, cheese, and onion), NY style (Mustard and sauerkraut), or Chicago style (Mustard, relish, onions, pickle spears, sport peppers, and celery salt).
This particular location (In Upper Kirby, near the 59 Diner) also boasts an excellent manager. My dad and I dined in today and received better service than we’ve had in some sit down restaurants. The manager made her way from table to table more than once, clearing away trash, offering free drink refills, and making sure there weren’t any problems. Quite unusual for a fast food restaurant.
The produce is amazingly fresh. The tomatoes were so good that when I couldn’t finish my burger, I pulled them off and ate them alone. Apparently they prep their veggies twice a day – once in the morning, and once in the afternoon.
Also, this is one of two places in town that I know of where you can get Delaware Punch. For the uninitiated, it’s a cross between cola and fruit punch, minus the carbonation and caffeine with a little extra grape flavor.
