The Reggae Hut, which has been around for ten years, started struggling in 2006. Marcus Davis, owner of the Breakfast Klub, ended up buying them out to stop them from closing their doors.

All I can say to Davis is thank you. How many places in Houston have needed someone to step in like that? In an interview with the Chronicle, Davis talked about the Reggae Hut being an inspiration:

Growing up in a minority, low-income community, the only things you believed possible were the things around you. So here was this African-American business that became a success, an inspiration. I didn’t want the place to close. It means too much to me. Without it, I’m not sure there would have been the Breakfast Klub. I mean that.

In other news, it’s high time I get my ass over to this place.
