Listen for Violins
This is the building at the Central Library that has a reputation of being haunted. Late-night visitors and workers have reported hearing a violin playing in the building when there was no one else there to play it. The story is that the building’s janitor, Mr. Cramer, who died in the basement in 1936, used to practice his violin in the building late at night, after all the library patrons and staff had departed. He died in the basement because he lived there with his dog, which may seem rather unorthodox but is entirely likely, given the loosey-goosey way Houstonians tend to conduct their business. Staff and patrons have also reported seeing a ghostly image of a woman, but whether or not it is Julia Ideson or another woman formerly associated with the library, I don’t know.
This building was built in 1926.
