The first time I went to this place
This past weekend was my first camping trip in 10 years. The campground at Elk Neck had lots of trees and kept things cool. I was with my gloriously camping-competent gentleman companion, who happens to be the best campfire chef you’ll ever find. We had big, deliciously seasoned soft tacos and roasted corn. Outside the campground was pretty too, although we erroneously bypassed the road to the swimming beach. Instead of taking that turn, we drove straight, to the easiest trail, the one to the Turkey Point Lighthouse. I don’t usually think of rocky cliffs when I imagine being on the inner bay, but there they were: some dramatic views and big drops. The boating looked very pleasant. And we’ll have to go swimming another time.
Sorry, no photos. We were too busy living to photograph it.

A tip I have about this place
Make sure you have a map and ask questions. We thought the swimming beach was at the lighthouse point, and I was very disappointed after hiking the trail down to the point! The North East Beach is accessed by another road, ironically in the northwest part of the park.
