Ingram Island is not usually a tourist destination, but the site of a research project about endangered sea turtles. There are small groups of researchers and volunteers who stay on the island for brief periods of time each year, camping out. There are no permanent human built structures. I had a very wonderful and intense experience here during my two weeks as an Earthwatch volunteer. For more information, check out the Earthwatch website (www.earthwatch.org) and look for the project “Hawksbill Turtles of the Great Barrier Reef”.
