Nodine's Gourmet Store  — 5 months ago

The ride here alone is worth the visit, out in the Goshen countryside on the main drag (rte 63) on the left. Here there is a Victorian house with a fair sized white sign out front declaring “Nodine’s Smokehouse” “Parking in back of the house”.
Once you drive into the parking area to your right you will see a little barn, Which I was told is a rebuilt dairy barn with some added support to make a sturdy building. When you walk thru the doors you will see a space not much bigger than some peoples livingrooms, but upon looking closer you will notice the coolers filled with medium smoked delicacies. You see I used the term medium smoked, this is a process that gives a medium smokey taste to many of the products prepared by Nodine’s Smokehouse, not the heavy smoke taste one usually encountered by “Smoked foods”. Old fashioned smoking uses big logs slow burned to saturate products with smoke and the heat slow cooks the product as well, during the process of medium smoking a smoke generator incorporates a limited amount of smoke into the product chamber and heat is pumped in to cook the product to the required internal temp to kill bacteria. Medium Smoking has a less acrid taste then Heavy Smoking. You can order Nodine’s products online at www.nodinesmokehouse.com but, for that real hands on experience take a ride out to Goshen its off the beaten path and there are many worthwile stops along the way. Once you get to Nodine’s Smoked Gourmet Store, have some soup and a sandwich or some Nodine’s famous beef jerky, it can be a little tough but it tastes oh so good.
On a nice day its a wonderful ride!
