Touristy though. over 4 years agoUntitled by RPwas last night, and was also the first time I went to this place. I saw during the day that Eliza Gilkyson was playing there that night, so after I met Kim N for dinner I had her drop me off there. I got there in time to get a ticket and a drink and to get a good seat. Since I was by myself, I had brought some writing to edit while I waited. Soon, however, I spilled most of my drink from trying to juggle too many things. I pouted and considered getting another but didn’t want to get up. Pretty soon a guy came up and sat next to me so I lamented the demise of my margarita to him and he offered to buy me another :). I said no, no, I might get one later, but then we struck up a conversation. He wanted to know about my fellowship, and so I told him the short version of the saga of my last three years and why I was in Austin and solicited advice for what else I should do while in town. After a while his wife joined us and I talked just as long to her. Got the thumbnail sketch of their life stories, where to get good apple pie, where to go for a good Friday night fish fry etc. He did end up buying me another drink, in fact, which I accepted after his wife pressed the offer too. They were very friendly people in a very friendly town who seemed to enjoy getting to know someone out on her own while visiting a strange town. They even gave me a ride home and took my email address for future reference. The guy took my photo under the Threadgill’s sign. over 4 years ago |
