Samuel Pepys and the Great Fire by Bruno Girin
The Anchor is one of those traditional English pub that has been serving customers since before the Great Fire of 1666. In fact, this is the place where Samuel Pepys witnessed the destruction caused by the fire.
The pub as it stands today dates from 1676, with extensions added over the centuries, sometimes with little regard for the original structure, resulting in a large establishment with multiple rooms. The terrace on the bank of the river is a great place to have a drink in summer.
