We went here to confront the barkeep on it’s claim of being the Oldest Bar in New York… I know that Bridge Cafe, Fraunces Tavern and McSorely’s Old Ale House are all older.

Well turns out all of those places have closed for one reason or another. Bridge Cafe has been itself only since the 1970s and before then it was multiple places. Fraunces Tavern closed down and re-opened in the early 1900s. McSorley’s seems to be the oldest as it opened in 1854 but the records back then are sketchy and some say it didn’t have a license until 1865… it is a subject of much debate.
