Worth visiting!
really very cool
Sanev and I went to see the Singing Ringing Tree twice, recently. The first time was on a day on which gale force winds were attacking the valley, and we could hear nary a sound from the pipes. The structure was striking, but it was a let down that it didn’t interact with the environment to produce sound (which, after all, was the unique and attracting feature of the spectacle).
Our second visit was on a mildly breezy day. The pipes produced a lovely, peaceful, humming song which perfectly complemented the pastoral environs. It’s definitely worth a visit, but be sure to go on a not-too-windy day, in order to have the full experience – sound as well as sight.
This is a great example of excellence in public art, and must be seen (and heard)!

A gentle breeze works best.
Visited twice now. The first time it was blowing a gale, and we couldn’t hear a thing. The second time there was only a gentle breeze, and we could hear the panopticon “singing & ringing” (more like humming really).
Would also recommend going because of the great views across Burnley, and the windmills over Cliviger. There are lots of sheep there too, for the more adventurous. ;)

Why I want to go to this place
I read about this giant, tree-shaped windchime in a late 2005 edition of Wallpaper magazine, and thought, right away, that I’d love to see it. Barely a year later, I’ve found myself living very close to it, and about to move within hiking distance. I really must go! It’d be great to drag some other people with me, too, no? As a bonus, sanev knows the way: at Crown Point (sorta Inspiration Point on Happy Days), over Burnley.
