A review of this place: Potentially exciting!  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

I haven’t had the best of luck with Rum. Twice I have been to it and around it on the Mallaig trip and once I have been on it – but I never saw a sea eagle until I was on the Norwegian Coastal Voyage years later. This was hte first place in Scotland, along with Fair Isle, where they were re-introduced from Norway after years of extinction in Scotland.
I’ve never walked on its mountains either, called Cuillins as on Skye and even including Sgurr nan Gillean.
I did enjoy seeing Kinloch Castle, a folly that involved prodigious expense. Since then it has first fallen into near ruin and, more recently, it’s been undergoing restoration. Hostel accommodation is available htere; see http://www.hostel-scotland.co.uk/hostels/index.asp?ID=167
