McCarren Park

The soccer pitch is always jumping, and I’ve seen the kickball leagues going head-to-head, but I always go for the Saturday morning farmers’ market. It happens to be the pick up for Williamsburg CSA, but for those who just want to pick up a few items there is usually dairy/eggs, meat, baked goods, fruit, vegetables, flowers and honey. It is much more sparse in the winter months, but in the summer it is like a little slice of Vermont in the city. To complete the picture there is a duo that plays old jazz (think Django) tunes while children dance.

since it’s kinda on the border, but since they put the mccarren park pool in williamsburg i thought the park should go with it.

i love this place, it’s walking distance to me, it’s the first time i’ve seen pigeons in the snow on a baseball pitch, it’s the first time i’ve seen people play baseball in yammukahs (please excuse my attrocious spelling, could someone correct me here?), it’s the first time i’ve seen american foodtball practice by a silhouette of an orthodox church (or is that a synagogue – help me out here, i’ll post a pic up to make it easier).

it’s my sanctuary from new york life, and yet a display of new york life at the same time. does that make sense?
