bridge of troubled roads and pedestrians
very similar to my entry from the long island city side of the bridge . but I thought I should just add a few things, because after all, your perspective is different going in the other direction.
You get to this lookout thing once you get to the river, then if you go onto this black part of the bridge, that has this gap shaped like teeth, that opens up a little if a car passes over. the first time i walked over this bridge a truck passed over just as i was walking over the gap and it opened up wide and the earth shook, and i looked down over the water. i like to call them the jaws of death
this sounded hysterically dramatic to my friend the first 326 times i mentioned it, till the same thing happened to him (a truck passing over at the exact right time) then he agreed with me too. it’s scary as…scary as the jaws of death i tell you!
then on the way back this pickup truck (i’m learning to speak american now see! in australia we say ute) dropped stuff off the back, so the driver slammed on the brakes, stopped in the middle of the bridge and put his hazzard lights on (yeah that makes it safe rollseyes ) and walked onto the oncoming traffic to pick it up, meanwhile 5 or so cars progressively slammed on their brakes, narrowly missing him.
so all in all, it’s a beautiful view, gorgeous at sunset, also at night, and worht a look during the day too, but prepare to be scared, and bring your faecal coloured underpants :P
