I spent a summer in Juneau. During one hot 70ish degree day with a few white clouds in the sky, a few friends suggested that I go swimming in Glacier lake. I prepared myself by laying out by the beach for a little bit and then plunge into the cold water. It was cold but fun. I miss that place.

I grew up in Juneau and this was my favorite place to hang out in the summer months. Every time I see a photo of the glacier, it takes me back to my childhood :)

I live in Juneau, so the glacier is a permanent fixture in my life. I’ve been there in the summer, and even gone swimming next to the waterfall – crazy freezing, but it was a lot of fun.

If you can... by Mary Hawkins

take the trail that leads out to the waterfall. It has parts that are boulders and rocks, but much of it is a walk along the beach. You get really close to the glacier, and on a warm day, it’s wonderful to just stand close to the spray from the falls.
