a garden visit not to miss! by Sean O'Hara
Marcia Donahue is a well-known local Berkeley sculptress, who is also famous for her amazing garden found at 3017 Wheeler St. She graciously opens her garden each and every Sunday afternoon to visitors nearly every week of the year. If you have not been, and are interested in art or gardens, do try and add it to your itinerary. I have brought foreign visitors to this magic place routinely – they almost always say it was one of the singular experiences of their visit. Marcia’s whimsical and poetic art is matched by her partner’s Mark Bulwinkle, which is also featured in the garden. The dizzying array of rare and unusual plants is testimony to Marcia’s plant-savvyness (she is, after all, a consummate member of an important local horticultural society – the Hortisexuals). Before or after your visit, be sure and visit The Dry Garden on Shattuck Avenue – a nursery in the same spirit as Marcia’s garden.
