A review of this place: July 2007 Visit

I’ve grown up hearing about Gaido’s as both sides of my family are from southeast Texas and often vacationed on the Gulf Coast during their childhoods and mine. It wasn’t until this year (I’m now 34) that I finally got to dine there, and it was so worth the wait! This is Gaido’s 94th year in business, yes, you read that right.

The interior reminds me of some of the old restaurants in the French Quarter in New Orleans … vintage light fixtures, the smell of old wood, old menus, photos and memorabilia line the walls. This is my favorite kind of restaurant to discover!

We had the Crabmeat Cheesecake for an appetizer … to die for! I had a fresh Red Snapper filet, grilled and topped with lots of lump crabmeat accompanied by Parmesan Tomatoes. Absolutely wonderful … so good, in fact, that I got the “oh so good” giggles and could hardly stop! I come from a foodie family, so bear with me.

The service was impeccable. We went on a Friday … if you go around 6pm you won’t wait, but after that be ready for a long wait. This is a must if you go to Galveston, once called the New York of the Gulf Coast. At Gaido’s, you can almost get a glimpse of the Galveston that once earned that title.
