A review of this place: The Best NYC Pizza Ever!
When the topics of “food” and “New York City” are mentioned, this is the place that immediately comes to mind. Spumoni Gardens is, hands-down, the best place to get pizza in NYC.
The treasure of this place is the sauce-on-top Sicilian square slice. Even when it’s slightly burnt, it’s heaven on a plate. The spumoni itself is a perfect mini-dessert.
There is a separate restaurant from the pizzeria portion. I’ve only experienced the pizzeria, which is a fast-food booth, however the next time I come back to NYC, I plan to do the full deal here.
It’s located on the border of Sheepshead Bay and Gravesend in south central Brooklyn. If you’re going to Coney Island, especially via the N train, there’s no excuse for you to skip this place (aside from getting food at Nathan’s of course). It’s walking distance from Coney Island, weather permitting. It can take 40+ minutes from West Brooklyn or Manhattan to get here, but it’s absolutely worth it.
Happy 67th birthday, L&B!
(Many thanks to friend Trevor, who introduced me to this place five years ago.)
