Blackfriar

The Blackfriar is wedged between street and rail tracks, just outside Blackfriars station. Note the spelling: the pub uses the singular but the station uses the plural form. Does it mean that only one of the friars ever went to the pub while several of them used the train? There is probably an interesting story behind all this. But back to the pub, its location and shape clearly demonstrate English engineering and architectural ingenuity when it comes to building and furnishing a public house dedicated to the sale of alcoholic beverages. Despite its odd triangular shape, the place is actually quite roomy inside and benefits from a nice terrace in summer. Of note, it is completely non-smoking. It offers the range of drinks you’d expect from a traditional English pub and serves typical pub grub.
