al-Qāhirah (Cairo)
A review of this place: I still find it amazing! — 1 month ago
Worth visiting!
I agree that it needs to be cared for.. it’s one of the most important historic sites in Cairo and yet it’s been neglacted for a long time.. and any effort done there to make it better seems only to make it worse.. The truth is, as much as we are a country that lives primarly on tourism, we don’t know how to take care of our important sites.. at all!
But even in it’s current state I find it beautiful! It’s a part of history.. it’s supposed to be crowded.. and I won’t be wrong to say that this is a part of it’s beauty.. it’s charm..
As for store owners.. try to visit any similar ancient Souq in any country and you’ll find it exactly the same thing!!
Begguers are another big.. big problem that should be taken care of.. it is really bad in what concerns them, not only in Khan El Khalyly, but in every historic site in Egypt, espacially the Pyramids!!
My advice.. Go to Khan El-khalyly again.. concentrate on the beauty of it this time.. the old buildings, the great gates of old Cairo.. the narrow intimate streets.. you might end up finding it amazing, and fall in love with it like all it’s visitors..
Best wishes & Good luck :)
