Limes Germanicus by Teitur
We wanted to see a little of the Limes Germanicus so we decided to come here.. Fair enough!
The fortress is a nice reconstruction and in the small museum there were also reconstructions next to the artifacts. There was a small café there as well. It was really nice there actually, with blooming trees and so on, maybe even a little too nice for a frontier fortress :D
They have a trail they fancifully call “the frontier experience trail” (sounds great doesn’t it :)) which we walked through the woods from Saalburg (TS) train station. The trail doesn’t have the best markings in the world but it was nice, when we found it. I don´t know if I really got the “frontier experience” but the forest was a nice enough when we got far enough not to hear the cars any more :)
Still I don’t know if I should recommend it for those who weren’t thinking of taking a walk in the woods. There isn’t that much of the limes to see: you walk along the small hill and ditch that were the limes and pass by one cellar of a tower. (There is also another but you should skip it imo.)
It was a little bother that there were no explanations in other than German as of yet. We then returned by a bus to the Bad Homburg station and I think that could be a good way to arrive too..
