Cerro Otto

I wanted to walk off some of the calories I ate when my friend was sleeping, so I followed the Fodor’s guide for a hike on this hill. (I couldn’t find an English speaker at the information center in Bariloche…$$%$@@##)

Fodor’s claims there’s 360 degree view of the lakes on the summit… apparently the author never made it to the top, coz I found myself in a forest, surrounded by flies the size of roaches…with no view whatsoever.

I met no more than 5 other hikers on my way up and down (16km). I was lost on my way down, and had to climb into some local people’s yard to ask for direction – he speaks 0 English and me 0 Spanish… so he pointed me to some pictures of people skiing… I gathered that the hill is of no use other than skiing…

It seems to be the only hiking trail accessible on foot from Bariloche, and you do get some good view of the lakes and snow covered mountains on your way up (no more than 5 km, + 1km to reach the trail start)
