A review of this place: A small community that's close to nature.
This is small commune is one of many making up the Greater-Reykjavík area. Though somewhat suburban in some of its planning it also has a charm of it’s own. It is snugly nestled at the mouth of the beautiful valley of Mosfellsdalur between impressive mountains and a lively little stream. It’s beach is also beautiful and it’s old church is charming. It is close to nature and offers a variety paths (see this PDF) and activities for it’s enjoyment. A number of horse-rentals are located in the valley and the community boasts a golf-course, two swimming pools, a sports center, a library, an exhibition space, artists studios, craftsmen, a woolens outlet, greenhouses, parks and a number of other services. The picturesque former home of the Nobel-author Halldór Laxness, Gljúfrasteinn, in Mosfellsdalur is also open to the public and is more than worth a visit even though you don’t know his work at all.
Highway #1 runs north-south through town and highway #36 stretches some 50km in Mosfellsdalur and over the Mosfells-highland and ends at Þingvellir
