Despite how I usually eat pancakes in quantities so large that my stomach can’t quite register them, they are still a damn fine food. A food made even finer by the cold, wet, miserable Kingston weather as of late. I think we’re all craving a little added insulation.
Just one look at those glorious discs turns me into one big pit of unsatiable hunger. Sadly this bliss usually ends in me feeling quite ill. And on that note, I’d like to tell you all about the all you can eat pancake special at the Golden Griddle.
Golden Griddle is a chain restaurant, located at 1469 Princess Street, somewhere between Sir John A and Counter street, though far from anything too interesting. However, the Griddle is worth the trip alone. They have a stellar breakfast buffet for $9.99 ($7.89 on weekdays). On the weekends they refresh the buffet much faster, and they’ll even make crepes if you ask.
However, the highlight of the Golden Griddle experience is to be had on Tuesday, and only on Tuesday my friends (in honour of Pancake Tuesday no doubt). On this day, for a measly $2.99 you can consume piles and piles of pancakes. Not just ordinary pancakes either, but buckwheat and buttermilk varieties. At this price, with a little hard work and determination, they can cost less than 10 cents each.
Service is friendly, coffee is bottomless, and I promise you’ll encounter an assortment of fun characters that you might expect to be on their way to bingo. You can chain smoke with them in the parking lot.
If you like to keep the college ‘Beer and Pancakes’ tradition alive, they are fully licensed.
We suggest: Pancakes at Golden Griddle are trans-fat free and they use Omega 3 eggs, but if you dig the stuff, ask for their sugar-free syrup. It tastes the same as the regular, and though it might cause cancer and all, you’ll feel much less sugar-high sick if you consume 29 flapjacks doused in the regular stuff.
