Looking for a new study spot on campus where you can get lots of work done without staring off into the great lululemon and ugg boot abyss that is Stauffer library? Well, in Mac Corry, the most glorious of all brutalist nightmares, lies a great study room, aptly named the ‘Mac-Corry Study Room’.
On the first floor of this maze of a building, right across from the cafeteria and tucked in beside the women’s washroom you’ll find this place. It’s nothing pretty to look at, just a big room with rows of study carrels and chairs. One wall has a big window looking out onto the Mac-Corry courtyard, but the view isn’t that great.
The best thing about this study room is that it’s extremely quiet at all times, but not the Douglas Library anal kind of quiet. If you rip open a bag of twizzlers you will not get shot.
Additionally, if the mood strikes, the Mac-Corry caf is mere steps away and there’s a huge wall of vending machines that are open around the clock. While the study room closes late, it’s no longer open 24 hours. However, there are plenty of nooks and crannies in the building where you can study the night away if you are so inclined. This isn’t the safest, as it’s dark and empty. We suggest high-tailing it up to Stauffer which has purged itself of the facebook prowlers by this time of night.
There’s no internet access here, which is a blessing in disguise in terms of productivity, though there are power outlets at each desk. If you desperately need to check your email or do some quick research there are numerous computer labs in the building, as well as a web kiosk in the main lobby.
