Worth visiting!

My friend and native Southern Californian Christina F— put me on to the Zane Grey. It was her custom every full moon to book a room, take the ferry from San Pedro to Avalon, and arrange to have a massage. Christina knew how to live.

The building was once the home of the author of Western novels. Each room bears the name a novel. I believe Christina’s fave was Purple Sage. The hotel is on a hillside, just below the town’s campanile. Many rooms have splendid views of the ocean. The swimming pool is shaped like an arrowhead.

This establishment presents the perfect balance of kitsch, funk, and comfort.
