Franconia Notch State Park

We went years ago, before “The Man in the Mountains” face slid off. It was stunning!! We hiked, played in the water and I highly reccommend the Alpine slides!

I went to Franconia in August 2007 and had a beautiful and wonderful time.I stayed at Hill Winds resort..it was a great place..with rooms overlooking the Gale river..the town was so quiet that you could hear the sounds of insects..the pub had good food and there was a local band playing there at night..the drive through the white mountains is scenic and there are many sightseeing points there.The Notch is indeed a natural wonder and the state park is well maintained.There is Echo lake there..and also the Cannon tramway which takes you up the Cannon mountain.The Mount Washington Cog railway is an experience in itself..a steam engine climb to the top of the tallest mountain of the area..though the train stops at the summit only for 20 minutes..so there is just time to click one or two pics ..pity there isnt time to look around.There is also the mount washington auto road which one can use to climb at mountain at ones own leisure.We planned to go canoeing..so drove from franconia till we reached the Saco canoe rental office..they rent canoes,kayaks at a reasonable rate..we were taken in a truck to the Maine state line..where the Saco river flows..it was our first time canoeing..the river is shallow..so there was no fear ..we just took the shortest 3.5 mile trail.During summer,the river is full of ppl kayaking or caneoing.There are some stops in between the trail..and we stopped at the beach and had a nice picnic lunch..at the end of th trail..a pickup truck comes to take you back to the office.It reamins one of my most memorable vacations till now!!
