High Dive

Which Todd informed me was a Gillian Welch cover. I was moved. And that’s when I snapped this picture of Ian on guitar.

I was lucky enough to catch Downpilot for an understated (no drummer) but very moving set last night. I hadn’t heard the band for about 3 years—the last time being a recording that someone played for me in their car on the way to another gig. Anyway, really well constructed songs and the musicianship was stellar in my opinion. Of course I’m biased as Todd was on bass. I’m always amazed when a bass player can hold the tempo and low end at the same time.

Todd gave the High Dive a not worth it rating, but last night’s performance pulled my opinion the other direction.

Word on the street is that there’s a new rocker bar in town. Dunno if it’s a marketing ploy or the real deal, so I have to head to Fremont (of all places) to find out.
