This rather appealed to me, so I left a dollar in the box, and it occurred to me to inquire if she was somehow involved with the undertaking herself. She said that yes, she was in charge of it, and she was also part of the local fire department. “Volunteer or professional?” I asked and she laughed. “Volunteer,” she said and I realized that was almost a ridiculous question.
