I really enjoyed Fes. One tip would be to pick up some French or Arabic before visiting. It was very easy to travel in the coastal North using Spanish/English but that ended quickly in Fes. I still had a great time but only communicated with the touts/guides. Anyone who speaks English is probably trying to sell you a rug or score a commission off of selling you one.

Take a taxi ride up the nearby hill and look down on Fez, it is an amazing site, the oldest medieval city in the world, but once you get in it all you can see are the tiny streets and peer through small doorways, it’s so easy to get lost..

This was a bit of a culture shock for me but really worth going. The markets are pretty amazing! Its very busy with lots of kids following me around and people trying to sell me something at every opportunity! Very beautiful Mosques and views were lovely!

Mike Wilson asks,
“I'd like to visit Fes for a week or so later this year, travelling from the UK. I'm interested in seeing the art, craft & architecture. Can I get a sensibly priced package to Fes? All I've found so far are frighteningly expensive -- £800 and over.” over 7 years ago
