The first time I went to this place
The food was decent, if not somewhat overpriced. Service was slow, but I’ll give them that considering the newness of the place.
I did not enjoy watching the line cook handle cooked fries, onion rings and buns with his bare hands immediately after handling raw hamburger. The cashier on duty did not seem all too concerned about this behavior, either. Apparently the health department needs to school this place on cross-contamination prevention.
The condiments, including produce, are “self-serve”. They are out of sight of the staff which means people are constantly reminding them they are out of lettuce or tomatoes, etc.
As of Oct. 23, they do not accept plastic… cash only. The sign is right next to the cashier and a bit of a surprise. Apparently someone forgot to sign up for a merchant account as part of their grand opening process.
The restaurant has a decent feel to it, but the lighting is uninviting and far too harsh. They’ve got a few blinding spotlights on a track pointed here and there, which creates an “interrogation room” sort of feel. Interior space is not well laid out and makes inefficient use of the floor. The sectional overhead doors and open patio are nice, though.
I may give these guys another shot, but as they say, first impressions and all…

News about this place
Lucky Buck’s, a new burger joint on University Avenue, is offering a grand-opening special: $5 burgers and burritos (normal price $6.95 and up). Get ‘em while they last! My girlfriend and I went there tonight and partook of the flame-broiled goodness and waffle fries.
