We didn’t do too much in Waco but did visit the Cameron Park Zoo which was well worth the drive up from Austin. I’ve been to bigger zoos but this one is inexpensive, there are animals we hadn’t seen before and you can get really close to them. Favorite part was the clear plastic slide that dissects the river otter tank. Kids can slide right through their tank w/ river otters above and below.

I wouldn’t imagine Waco has a happenin’ night life but we want to return to see some other sights (Dr. Pepper Museum and Mammoth exhibit at the museum) some weekend day.

I have lived in Waco for a year, and lived NEAR Waco for over a decade... by rachelle1017

Definately NOT a place to go on vacation, lol, unless it’s just a stop on the way to Austin, San Antonio, Corpus, or another of those interesting places down south.

But as far as a living here goes, it’s not bad. My favorite place in Waco is Cameron Park. I go there often and use the trails, it’s very pretty. I go to MCC (the local community college), and I plan on transferring next fall and getting the hell out of here for good, because it’s just really boring, and of course extremely conservative both politically and religiously (although, because there are 3 colleges in town, there ARE people here who aren’t Bush worshipers or religious nuts, I’m one of them, lol). . .

Which brings me to my next point; There is STILL a cult here in Waco. Not the Branch Davidians. It’s a place called “Antioch”. Two of my friends have already been converted. They are completely different people now and don’t want to be my friend unless I go to church with them (HELL NO).

Stay away from Antioch. That’s my number one advice if you come here.

The only reason I say Waco is worth visiting is because of Cameron Park, and there are a few museums that are cool, and Baylor and MCC campuses are really pretty and either of them are good college choices. Those things are Waco’s only saving grace.
