Scary Man in a Quaint Town by Angel

Me & my younger brother needed a project to kill an off day so we headed to Eugene to check out a Tat Convention my tat artist was being featured at. On the way through the downtown we were stopped at a stop light. The street was pretty desolate. I commented to my brother about woman pushing her baby in a stroller, her baby was adorable! Then I noticed a guy coming around the corner of the street light we were at. He skulked acrossed the street and had a malicious look in his eye. He had a very punk or skinhead look which under normal circumstances I wouldn’t give a second thought to because I have a fairly unconventional look myself. There was something just off about this guy so I was worried for the woman. I turned to see where she had gone then I heard a loud thud on the windshield. I turned to see the guy threw himself at as. He gave the windshield one last good swing then strutted away. The woman was gone and I was in shock over the guys actions. We tried to make light of it but upon further research I have found that there are some pretty well established sects of skinheads. Now I’ve traveled hi and low solo and with companions. Growing up a half white/half Mexican American in a predominantly black & mexican neighborhood I hate hate hate it when people play the race card. I’ve had people tell me "don’t move here or there because there because they’re racist " only to move to such and such place and not have one problem, but I can honestly say this was a pretty troubling experience. Hopefully it was a one off and nobody else has to deal with this here regularly but just wanted to share just is case.

If you want to learn anything about eco-living, Eugene is the place to be. I spent 4 years here and have learned more about sustainable, green, eco – whatever- living here than I have anywhere else. Not only is it a gorgeous town, but it is bike friendly and has quick access to climbing and hiking. The town is super bike friendly and if you’re in the mood, you can take a bike tour with eco-specialist Jan Spencer. One thing to note: it rains more in Eugene than it does in Seattle. Who knew?
