    Not worth it!

I went to the Antique Sandwich Company a few times and played music, but that was the only cool thing I did in Tacoma (that is in Ruston, more precisely). It seems like it was mostly built in the last 10 years, and it looks very prefabricated and planned out to me (this is “urban gentrification”?). They call it the “City of Destiny”, and that is why I avoid it, I am not trying to meet my destiny there.

    Worth visiting!

I went to UPS and spent four years in Tacoma, and while we all complained incessantly about the lack of anything, I really did enjoy Tacoma…it has several small, quirky neighborhoods, an abundance of good beer, coffee, and food, and of course good people. Although it doesn’t offer the same kind of advantages as a large city like Seattle, it is charming in its own, awkward way.

Visit Tacoma institutions like Bob’s Java Jive, Gateway to India, 6th Ave, The Waterfront, Point Defiance, Antique Sandwich Company, The Glass Museum, Tacos Guaymas, Proctor District, The Blue Mouse, The Grand, Stadium Video, MSM Deli, The Parkway, The Hob-Knob, Queen Anne Thriftway (NOT Metropolitan Market), and of course the UPS campus and the North End are very nice…

Recommendation: Excellent Wine Bar & Restaurant  — 1 year ago

Go to Vin Grotto on Pacific Ave. The atmosphere, wine, food & ownership are outstanding. Tacoma needs to keep places like this here.

The highest suicide rate in the country.

And as I lived there for two years, I can see why.

Stay at the Silver Cloud Inn – it is soooo beautiful. It’s right on the water and has a great view of the mountains. Plus it was right near the two things I wanted to see in Tacoma – Stadium High Schools and Point Defiance. Beautiful place.

Why I want to go to this place  — 2 years ago

I only want to go because 1) I am sick of the south and 2) I just had a phone interview for a great job that I really want that is in Tacoma. I’ve never been to that part of America before and it seems like it’d be a great adventure.
