Worth visiting!
Untitled
I was born and raised in Bakersfield—fourth generation…and it is a great town to be from. I lived there until I was 20 and then went off to college, lived in many different countries and only go back to visit family. It is a large town with a small-town mentality so if you consider yourself progressive, this is NOT the town for you.
All-in-all this town gets a bad rap…it is not that bad but when you have a growing population with not too many things to do, crime rises. As with any place you hang your hat, you can find what you want if you look hard enough…life is what you make it…

nothing fantastic
but it’s a cute town. from the 58 into bakersfield, you see miles of factories, warehouses, huge tanks of god knows what, oil pumps and what not. once the 58 hits the 99, though, it’s pretty residential. some parts sorta maintain that industrial look, but other parts seem pretty clean. the people are nice and it’s greener than all of it’s surroundings. which was why my husband and i headed there in the first place. we wanted to find green. we live in the desert and have been green deprived for quite some time… so we figured that we should be able to find some green if we headed north. and that we did, in bakersfield. we were happy. when we move closer to bakersfield, i’m sure i will get more familiar with the town.

Bakersfield is Home
My wife is fourth-generation Bakersfield and I’m third-generation Bakersfield so we have pretty deep roots.
We’ve both been all over the world, and I work in Malibu and my wife works in Santa Monica.
But Bakersfield is home. Where else can you be surrounded by so much that is growing?
When we look at Bakersfield, we think of Steinbeck. Call it delusional, but hey, well, okay, it’s delusional. But Bakersfield is home.
