Your average mid-biggish-sized city, has some nice suburb areas. Downtown is cute and has some pretty cool places to go out in. It’s also fun to go check out an Akron Aeros (baseball) game.

Well, I live here. Great city, horrible economy as of late. Pretty sad I’m gonna have to move.

Why I want to go to this place  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

i plan to go here because mr.ohio-native boyfriend of mine says that if i walk in there saying ‘akron’ like i do (which is ak-rahn, as opposed to the “proper” ak-rin) that someone will most definately try to beat me up. i want to see if he’s right.

Sometimes referred to as “Little Cleveland,” Akron is located just south of Cleveland by about a 40 minute drive. The city is a smaller city, but includes some interesting neighborhoods (such as the eclectic, quaint Highland Square district and the shopping mall area of Fairlawn). It is also located near two major universities: The University of Akron and Kent State University (about 15 minutes outside Akron).

Some of my favorite stops in Akron include The Lime Spider in downtown Akron which is a smaller alternative bar that hosts indie and alternative music acts, as well as Revival, a small boutique with locally-made vintage tees and apparel in the Highland Square neighborhood. Also recommended is Square Records, an independent record store with an art gallery attached. Occasionally some good exhibits will pop up at the newly remodeled Akron Museum of Art. In terms of nightlife, most of it revolves around the downtown University of Akron bars. A recommended stop is contemporary martini bar and restaurant Fuel and upscale nightclub Posh.

Akron is the home to Alcoholics Anonymous, Quaker Oats and of course: rubber!

Overall, Akron is an enjoyable, smaller-size city made marginally famous for its tire manufacturers like Goodyear and Firestone that has some interesting districts and underrated stores and clubs (if you know where to look!)

    Not worth it!

I went to school in Kent Ohio so I was in Akron all the time if I wanted to do something.

Its not a bad city but I wouldnt want to live there. The city itself is not really unique.

I visited this church in Akron whenever I was in the choir at Second Baptist Church where the Rev. Amos Polk, Sr. presides. The church left an everlasting impression on my mind because the interior was royally purple. I have no idea what the name of the church was, but I’ve never forgotten those purple pews and carpet.
