A review of this place: I live here. Not by choice.
Life here is ok but it’s nothing more than that, life. I just know I guaduate in a few months and I will not hesitate to leave. Most of my family is across the Hudson (also where I was born). So, I go out of my way to make trips out to the city. There really isn’t much to Jersey. Perhaps, I’m a bit biased because I’m basically a New Yorker residing in Jersey City, but there is truth to what I’m saying. Come here if you want. I won’t be the one to recommend you do.

Why I recommend this place to visitors
I live here now. After growing up in Park Slope, Brooklyn this is exactly the kind of place that warms my heart. The reminiscent feeling I get when I walk around is so nice. Tree lined blocks, bricked walls and tall ceilings, what else could a girl ask for. Numerous parks with dog walks. Very diverse with different nationalities and sexual orientations in one area! Easy commute to the City, diverse foods and cultures. I love it!

When I left the Philippines for the US, my family and I lived in Jersey City for a short while. I was 10 years old at the time and there was nothing significant that I remembered of Jersey City. Even now, when my family visits relatives there, I feel it’s just a suburb close to New York City. Albeit, I’m a little biased because I am a New Yorker.

The last time I went to this place
I lived near Newark Ave. for a few months back in 1995. I did not like it very much. All of the stores closed at 6pm. There were riots outside the high school nearby. Someone stole my roommate’s car. People were very unfriendly.
There was some excellent pizza here. Gianni’s and some place at the Journal Square PATH station.
Also, I was closer to lower Manhattan here than when I lived in uptown Manhattan (Washington Heights).
