Great place for locals. by Andre White

Virginia Beach has two sides, the one tourists see (reference the ‘Gang ridden’ description below) and locals. The local music scene is nice. Most people there are actually friendly and help each other out. I’m an ‘African American’ and if I can get down in an Irish Pub on St Patrick’s Day then the place gets a big thumbs up. The local food is great too (although the tourist trap beach can have some overpriced places that shall remain anonymous.) The beach gets lit up and decorated for Christmas and they have something for all ages in terms of festivals, concerts etc. Go and see for yourself, and if all else fails, Nag’s Head or the next beach town is only a short drive away.

Reference my description of the Norfolk area. Don’t waist your time in this dumpy gangland. Get in the car and go about an hour south to the Outer Banks of North Carolina! You won’t be sorry! Besides, I can guarantee you won’t have to worry about your family getting robbed on the beach there! I would honestly like to see a CAT 5 hurricane wipe VaBeach off of the face of the earth! What a filthy, crime-ridden dump!

Despite spending the passed six summers in Virginia I had never been to this beach until last Summer. It is a great beach! Its beautiful and seems like something from a movie, most wouldnt envision finding a beach like this in Virginia so its a pleasant surprise!

Homophobic? You'll love it here! by Kate Riley

Not only did Regent University welcome us with about 5 police officers to each Rider (and there were about 30 of us!) BUT the town was just as friendly! Things were okay on Virginia Beach as long as you don’t mind being called a faggot!

It’s a nice beach with a throwback seventies feel. We were there yesterday (6 April) and it was great. It was rainy and windy, but the waves were coming in making for a cool experience.

We ate at Abbey Road, a Beatles restaurant knockoff. The food wasn’t particularly good, but we didn’t expect it to be.

Despite the tacky shops and other assorted kitsch, Virginia Beach didn’t feel like a tourist trap. Maybe it’s because it was off season, but I really liked it.

Can’t wait to go back when it is warmer.
