Worth visiting!
I finally got to visit Austin this year.. twice no less.
Both times I saw bands on 6th street and loved it.
Actually saw Sonny Wolf twice and boy does he rip.

Austin is a great town for poetry, but it was so hot that I felt like my feet were baking while waiting to cross the street. Try not to go in August!

Go to 6th street. It’s a somewhat typical party crowd, but more relaxed than any other bar scene I’ve ever been to.

Going there at the end of August for a wedding. Any suggestions for things to do there? I have decided that I am going to save my goal of riding a mechanical bull for Texas but I need some other suggestions for places and things to do while there. Please leave comments. Thanks!

First time I went there in early April ‘08 and spent a week for a conference. Beware! this city is pretty warm, even at night. Around 80 degree. So no need for a jacket here. The people are mediocre and “less” friendly (compared to people from I’m from). This city is the true midwest city compared to Houston. TX BBQ and a beer is a way to spent your time here. Otherwise, not much too see.

I was born in raised in south austin and lived there for 18 years. My parents still live in the same house. I will probably make my way back there before i’m done.

Not impressed. Too small, too much traffic, too overrated. The state Capitol was the standout. It’s open for tour seven days a week—friendly folks, lots of history, gorgeous building and visitors’ center.

There was a huge music festival! It was insane! There was music everywhere and people playing in the streets. It was excellent. I would highly advise it. Also, public transportation is free, ride the Dillo’.

If you’re in Austin during the summer, go to the Congress Street Bridge at dusk and watch the THOUSANDS of bats who live under it take flight – it goes on forever!
Austin=music, every kind, every day!

Does anyone have any recommendations”

“We just moved here from Seattle. We love it! Need to know any "must sees or do's" for a late twenties/early thirties couple, with kids. Miss the eclecticness, fun energy of Seattle... and I know it's here and more, we just don't know where to look.”
